If you operate a car in Ontario, you are required to carry: Third Party Liability, Statutory Accident Benefits, and Direct Compensation/Property Damage (DCPD). Optionally, you can increase your Statutory Accident Benefits, add Specified Perils, Collision or Upset, and Comprehensive.
When you speak to a SurNet broker, you should discuss all of your insurance needs as bundling products together will save you money.
Like a vehicle, motorcycles that are used to drive on the roads in Ontario must be properly insured. Not as many insurers offer coverage for motorcycles, but of those that do, most offer considerable discounts when bundling home and auto together with the motorcycle. Since a motorcycle is covered under the same type of policy as a car, mandatory and optional coverages do not vary.
Since snowmobiles are required to be licensed in Ontario, they must also be insured. Coverages available are offered under a standard auto policy and quite often can be added to an existing one. Check with your broker to make sure the insurer you are with for your car can also offer coverage for your snowmobile. Not all insures will offer this coverage which can be significantly discounted when bundled with your home and auto policies.
Off-road vehicles can two, four or more wheels and are intended for recreational use. These vehicles include moto-cross bikes and four-wheel all-terrain vehicles, which are normally driven on trails and off road.
To drive an off-road vehicle, you must have at a minimum, a valid G2/M2 or greater driver’s licence unless you are driving on your private property. If you plan to drive the vehicle anywhere other than on the private property of the vehicle’s owner, you must also have the same mandatory insurance coverage as car.
